Instructor (Shifu)
Shifu Shi Yan Jin – 师父释延金
From the tender age of 8, Shifu embarked on an extraordinary path of martial arts, a journey driven by his own resolute request. In the crucible of his teenage years, his passion for Chinese Martial Arts ignited into an unquenchable fire. He delved deep into the esoteric realm of Traditional Shaolin Gong Fu, immersing himself in the profound teachings of the discipline: Traditional Shaolin Temple forms, Qi Gong, Chinese free fighting, and Qin Na (joint locking).
Yet, it was within the graceful flow of Shaolin forms that Shifu discovered more than physical prowess; he unearthed a profound connection to Buddhism. Meditation, a daily ritual, became the cornerstone of his training regimen. Yearning for enlightenment and mastery, Shifu made numerous pilgrimages to China, starting in 2004, to study at the hallowed grounds of the Shaolin Temple. There, he forged bonds with martial arts luminaries, learning under the tutelage of diverse masters.
One pinnacle of his journey unfolded on the global stage, the Kung Fu Star (K-Star) competition, commencing in Germany in 2006 and culminating in China. Here, 36 martial artists from across the globe converged to refine their skills and engage in fierce competition.
Shifu’s odyssey in China was not just about honing his martial skills; it was about preserving the sacred teachings of his mentors. He traversed the nation, enriching his knowledge and fortifying his integrity within the realm of Shaolin Gong Fu.
As a testament to his dedication, Shifu extended his influence beyond personal glory. He ventured into the arena of international competitions and now leads a new generation of martial artists, guiding them to compete, share their wisdom, and forge new friendships. Notably, he led a collective of students to The Second European Shaolin Culture Festival in London in 2014, promoting this event alongside his Martial Brothers and Masters from the UK.
In 2012, Shifu took four dedicated students to triumph in Germany at the Official Shaolin Temple: Shaolin European Association, Shaolin Cultural Festival. These auspicious events, graced by His Holiness the Venerable Shaolin Temple Abbot Shi Yong Xin, saw participation from all over Europe. Shifu’s students achieved glory, securing gold, silver, and bronze medals, while he personally received an award from HH Shi Yong Xin.
The zenith of Shifu’s journey led him to seek direct discipleship from HH Shaolin Temple Abbott Shi Yong Xin, earning the Dharma name Shi Yan Jin (Continuous Brightness). This distinction closely aligns Shifu Yan Jin and Shaolin Lotus with the Shaolin Temple’s mission of bringing Shaolin culture to the West through the conduits of Martial Arts and Buddhism.
Regular workshops under Shifu’s guidance delve into the profound depths of Shaolin Gong Fu, Tai Ji Quan (Rou Quan: Soft Fist), Chen Tai Ji, and martial morality. His mission is resolute: to promote these traditions to all earnest students, enriching their knowledge and skills. Shifu is unwavering in his commitment to imparting correct principles and theory, ensuring that his teachings resonate with all who seek the path.
In his own words, Shifu Shi Yan Jin declares, “My mandate is to guide others the way in which I would guide myself,” a testament to his unwavering dedication and profound impact on those who are fortunate enough to walk alongside him on this extraordinary journey.
